HERE ARE A FEW FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS CONCERNING THE SITE... Read on, and put your mind at rest...
I've been to the shop and think it's great - but I've never ordered online..Why does the postal cost seem so high? I can't go on starving the children like this.

Yes.. a popular one this, using the kids' dinner money to buy luxuries. Online orders are treated just the same as a mail order, as listed in the old fashioned papery (but spectacularly lavish colour) catalogue. Unfortunately, the online software is unable to cope with our method of calculating postage, and it defaults to the amount that it does, around £7.50. However, if you order a standard book, we'll only charge you one pound sterling!

Anyway..rickets and scurvy are a thing of the past! Blair and Bush together will save us all, whether we like it or not...

So, how do I know what postage I'll actually pay? If you have the papery catalogue, all the postage prices are listed, right alongside the cost of the item. If you don't have the papery catalogue, order one with your next order, or order one online now - while it's free!

Ok, but in the meantime, can you give me an idea of what I'm likely to pay?
This IS an awkward one. You will pay a maximum of £7.50 per 25 kilos( Mainland UK ONLY, carriage cost outside the UK will vary) which is a great deal, by any standards. A roll of copper foil - 40p, a soldering iron £2.00, a Toyo glasscutter, a pair of pliers, safety goggles, most books are all £1.00 each. However, one piece of glass 8" x 12" will cost £7.50.( Mainland UK ONLY, carriage cost outside the UK will vary) The trick is - order glass, and the rest of your parcel travels post free!

I see you have a minimum goods order value of £10.00. What if I only want to spend £1.71?

If you only want to spend £1.71, or any other number between one pence and £9.99, just use the normal mail order system. Minimum mail order goods value is £6.00 - if you need to order less than that, we ask you to send in postage stamps to the value of your order. We try to keep our bank charges and other costs low, so we can offer you a better, more economical service. Low value orders are welcome, but we do need to be a bit business-like some of the time.
So, you're just out to make money, is that it? I heard you cared about your customers and gave a great customer service? Yes, I'm out to make money. I run a business, with employees to look after. If I didn't make money, by inference, I'd lose it, and then I'd go bankrupt, become a destitute, and you'd have to find somewhere else to shop. I care about customers, and the service my business gives customers. If there's a blip in the service, I like to hear about it. If I don't hear about it, I can't thrash the perpetrators, (who are paid handsomely, incidentally,) can I?
You advertise a 24 hour service - on occasion it's taken longer than that for my goodies to reach me.

Our aim is same day despatch - and that's a hard target to hit when the phone rings non-stop late on a Monday afternoon. Mondays are by far the busiest day - we have the backlog of all the orders since Friday evening. So, we're looking at 2 days and 3 evenings worth of orders to process on Monday - and that's before Mondays' orders are tackled.

Obviously, if you order on a Friday, Monday is the earliest you can expect your goods.

Internet orders are checked on a regular basis - and all orders received by 2pm should be despatched the same day. That doesn't mean to say if your order arrives at 3pm that it won't go the same day. It depends on the level of activity in the shop/office.

I see there's no "gold padlock" on your website - does that mean your site isn't secure?

There's no "Gold Padlock" on the site for technical reasons (if you'd like to know these reasons - email me).

However, the site is as secure as the most secure site can be - security has never been breached on any Actinic Software site. You're more likely to have your card compromised (cloned) at a petrol station or a restaurant. Anyway, credit card companies provide an incredibly generous level of cash and sympathy to their card holders.

Do you keep my details on your computer? Some of them. We keep you name, address, contact numbers and purchase history. We do NOT hold you credit card details on any computer, or card index.
What happens if any of the items I've ordered are out of stock? Depends. If it's a major item, we'll contact you. If it looks like any inconvenience is likely to be caused, we'll contact you anyway, and discuss whether you'd like to back-order or cancel.
