Work
Organisation, Labour and Globalisation is published twice a
year with
the first
issue launched in January, 2007. Volume 6, Number 2 This volume will look at the increasingly complex inter-relationship between the movement of jobs to people (offshoring) and the movement of people to jobs (migration). In effect, both of these strategies involved drawing on a reserve army of labour in the context of globalisation. Whether the strategy involves bringing migrant workers across borders or outsourcing work to another country or continent, we can no longer think of the 'reserve' as residing within national boundaries. This issue will look at the factors driving these movements as well as the barriers to them. It will also look at other forms of mobility including job-to-job mobility and the fracturing of career trajectories in the context of globalisation. We welcome articles that address any aspect of this topic including: * corporate strategies for using migrant workers and/or global sourcing * the dynamics of the global division of labour; * labour market mobility * changing patterns of migration; * new forms of organisation among 'digital' or 'virtual' workers; * new forms of organisation among migrant workers, whether community-based or trade union-based * barriers to these forms of organisation * challenges to organisation and collective bargaining along the value chain * theoretical approaches to understanding the new global division of labour If you intend to submit an article, it would be helpful if you could send an abstract to ursulahuws@analyticapublications.co.uk by the end of May, 2012. The deadline for full submissions is end of July, 2012. We are always open to suggestions for new topics to address or offers to co-edit special issues. You can contact the editor here |
