GLACIER, FJORD, ICEBERGS. GREENLAND
A glacier meets the ocean. Large chunks break away and form ICE
BERGS. The valley occupied by the glacier is a deep, steep-sided
FJORD. The surface of glacier is coated with dust, streaked by
LATERAL and MEDIAL MORAINES and criss-crossed by CREVASSES.
Barely 10,000 years ago, the coasts of Scotland and Norway in
Europe, Maine, New Brunswick and British Columbia in North America
and Chile in South America that are ice free at this time, would
have resembled the scene shown in this image.
Glaciers and particularly, ICE CAPS are major WATER RESERVOIRS,
are extremely important elements in the HYDROLOGICAL CYCLE and
have a significant influence on world climate.
