EVAPORITE DEPOSIT
Inland lakes in hot, arid regions often dry up completely at certain times of year. Water EVAPORATES into the ATMOSPHERE but salts that were dissolved in the water are left behind as EVAPORITE DEPOSITS. This image shows a wide expanse of crystalline salt - all that remains of a great lake that occasionally occupies this region of Utah, USA.
