MASSIVE BOULDERS IN A RIVER
BOULDERS, half the size of a small cabin obstructs the course
of Yosemite National Park's Merced River. Gradually the boulders,
which have fallen from the granite cliffs that enclose the valley,
are eroded by the river. The most significant EROSION takes place
during FLOOD and some of the huge rocks were actually moved during
the tumultuous Merced River flood which caused major damage in
California's National Park in 1997. The physical force of surging
water and the chemical effects of corrosive substances in the
river, work over thousands of years to wear the boulders away.
