WATERFALL
This is a huge waterfall on America's Yellowstone River in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. Major areas of Yellowstone are covered with great thicknesses of VOLCANIC ASH and LAVA following a huge explosion I maybe 500,000 million years ago. Some of the rock layers are more resistant to EROSION than the ash layers. These rocks hold back erosion and often form big "steps" along rivers that we call WATERFALLS. The Upper Yellowstone Falls is just one of these features where the water falls hundreds of feet/m over a rocky step.
The flat skyline highlights the fact that Yellowstone and many other mountain areas are PLATEAUX. A PLATEAU is a flat topped land mass.
