GROOVED ROCK - GLACIAL ACTION
This rock in Acadia National Park, Maine, USA bears the tell-tale
scratches and the smooth appearance that suggests the powerful
action of moving ice has played a part. Moving from left to right,
a glacier descending from the Appalachian Mountains to the North,
has smoothed the GRANITE rock and has left lines and grooves through
the scratching action of sharp stones. This type of feature can
be seen all over the world in areas where strong rocks have met
the abrasive force of moving glaciers in the past. Similar features
can be seen in image L9 and there is a spectacular example in image L79 in the regolith.com library.
