GLACIAL CORRIE LAKES
A CORRIE is bowl-shaped hollow excavated into solid rock by the
erosive action of a small GLACIER. Unlike VALLEY GLACIERS that
flow down slopes like frozen rivers, CORRIE GLACIERS are found
high above the valleys on the exposed rocks mountain slopes. Many
corrie glaciers may "feed" or flow into a valley glacier. Corrie
is a Scottish word. They are also known as CIRCQUES (France) or
CWMS (Wales). The lakes which occupy the corries (as in the photograph)
are called TARNS.
