NATURAL BRIDGES
NATURAL BRIDGES are rare but wonderful features formed by the EROSION of rock. Here's how :

Imagine a river flowing around a bend or MEANDER. The water flows fastest on the outside of the bend and ERODES the river bank. What if the river was meandering through a canyon (see the photographs of the GOOSENECKS L37 - 39). The river will erode the canyon walls on the outside of the bends and may even break thorough to the other side. If the rock is strong like this sandstone in the picture and bridge may be formed and may remain until it eventually collapses.

Natural ARCHES are like BRIDGES but formed in a different way. Pictures can be found can be found at several places in the regolith.com library.
