SALT DEPOSITS (1)
In the hollows between the SAND DUNES small ponds of water may
fill after occasional rain (Yes it rains even in the desert!)
. Any water is soon EVAPORATED away by the sun's heat. All that
may remains of the pond may be a thin crust of SALT that has been
left behind from the evaporated water.
The crack pattern show how the salt shrank as it dried out. Some
salt deposits from large lakes may be very thick.
