RIVER IN AN ARID AREA
Lined with water loving trees, this small stream flows through
the arid regions of southern UTAH, USA. Streams like this distribute
water from areas where it is plenty to areas where it is scarce.
The large volume of mud, dust and sand particles that it carries
along clouds the water. Large pebbles and boulders litter the
streambed waiting for the next STORM SURGE to move them on their
way down-stream. Streams and larger rivers drain water that has
fallen from the ATMOSPHERE onto the land. Many reach the oceans
while others end up in lakes where their waters may EVAPORATE
back into the atmosphere. Dissolved minerals may be left behind
as EVAPORITE salt DEPOSITS.
