BEAR
With the first winter snows already on the ground in late October,
this Yellowstone National Park black bear forages in preparation
for a winter's hibernation. Yellowstone was the world's first
National Park when it was set aside by the American Congress in
1872. Thus was preserved a huge area of pristine Rocky Mountain
forest. The park abounds with wildlife like our Black Bear friend
here, his Grizzly Bear cousins, Elk, Moose, Bison, Coyote, many
kinds of Deer, Osprey, Pelicans and Swans to name a few of the
residents.
The park is world famous for its volcanic FUMEROLES and GEYSERS,
TRAVERTINE SPRINGS and HOT SPRINGS, rivers, lakes and waterfalls.
Not surprisingly, Yellowstone National Park is one of the world's
busiest National Parks.
Last but not least, the Park sits astride the American Continental
Divide. Rivers flow westwards to the Pacific Ocean and Westwards
via the Missouri-Mississippi system to the Gulf of Mexico.
