ARID DESERT
DESERTS are dry because although rain may fall from time to time,
any water is quickly EVAPORATED back into the ATMOSPHERE. Plants
and animals that do manage to live in these areas are adapted
to prolonged periods of DROUGHT. Each plant needs a lot of space
in which to spread its roots and collect the limited moisture.
Vegetation is therefore sparse as in this view of the desert area
of the Colorado Plateau in southern Utah, USA.
