PANCAKE CLOUDS
CLOUDS are made of tiny water droplets that CONDENSE from WATER VAPOR in air when the air chilled. Air moving over a MOUNTAIN RANGE like this, is chilled as it moves upwards.
CONDENSATION takes place and clouds develop. Air moving downwards on the other side of the mountains becomes warmer and the water droplets EVAPORATE to vapor again. Clouds like these appear to "stand still" marking the highest and therefore coolest points of the passage of the moving air. They sometimes become layered and look like a "stack of pancakes".
